Igloo Regeneration wins Commercial Developer of the Year for Porth Teigr Site
Celebrations are underway as igloo Regeneration is named as Commercial Developer of the Year at the Insider Wales Property Awards for the Porth Teigr development. The development is already visibly transforming the area, which is the last major piece of the Cardiff Bay Inner Harbour jigsaw, into a 21st century creative and sustainable neighbourhood.
Igloo are leading a collaborative partnership with the public sector comprising Cardiff Council and the Welsh Government to deliver Porth Teigr. They aim to make the project much more than just a property project and rather a key economic development initiative for Wales, creating an environmentally sustainable mixed use neighbourhood including public realm, commercial, retail and residential space. The centrepiece of the new sustainable neighbourhood is BBC Cymru Wales' Roath Lock studios.
Due for completion by autumn 2011, the 170,000 sq ft BBC Wales Roath Lock studios are set to house Doctor Who, Casualty and Welsh-language soap Pobol y Cwm among other productions, and are being built to the BREEAM Excellent sustainability standards as part of Igloo's commitment to sustainable investment.
Mark Hallett, Development Director at Igloo, says: "Our success at the Insider Wales Property Awards is testament to the significance of this growing development and we're naturally delighted with the win. We are confident that Porth Teigr will, over time, become an internationally recognised mixed use location, attracting new jobs and investment into Wales. The development is really starting to take shape and, building upon the success of the BBC's Roath Lock studios, we're already beginning to talk to other potential occupiers."
Igloo were one of nine winners at the awards ceremony where over 220 developers, builders, agents, advisers and consultants were present to celebrate Welsh achievements in property over the last year. As well as winning the Commercial Developer award, Igloo's Porth Teigr site was also shortlisted for Sustainable Development and Regeneration Development.
In terms of the future, Igloo is now talking to major occupiers regionally and nationally about further large scale inward investments to the Porth Teigr site.
